Certificates pertaining to Elizabeth Everard's first marriage.

Above: The death certificate of poor little Samuel Mansfield, step-son of Elizabeth Everard, who died of neglect after his father deserted his three small sons and new wife in January 1868.

Above: Birth certificate of Elizabeth Everard's first child, Elizabeth Mansfield. Although John Mansfield, Elizabeth's husband, was named as the baby's father, he had deserted his wife more than a year prior to the child's birth. Also, when the baby died in December of the same year, no father was named, suggesting that Elizabeth was illegitimate.

Above: Death certificate of Elizabeth Everard's first child, Elizabeth Mansfield. The baby's age was given as 6 months, but in fact she was 11 months old.

Above: The death certificate of Elizabeth Everard's second child, a tiny premature son whom she named Francis Mansfield. Born weighing just 2 and a half pounds, Francis lived for four days. His father was named as John Mansfield, but could not have been as John never returned to the family he had deserted.
